Why did you get into fitness (and CrossFit)?

I’ve always been active. I thought it was cool when I joined the Army and I’d get paid to workout (it was a requirement to do PT). I competed nationally in Taekwondo, which led me into kettlebells. After training several years with kettlebells, I got into CrossFit. I no longer compete in Taekwondo, instead I do some CrossFit competitions to satisfy my competitive spirit.

Why did you become a trainer?

I’ve always loved helping people. I have worked for over 20 years in the occupational safety profession.

After many people saw changes that kettlebells had on me, they asked to join my workouts. That led to me getting certified in kettlebells, and then starting the gym.

What’s your favorite CrossFit movement?

Pull-ups and cleans.

What is your favorite cheat food?

Beer, pizza and any kind of Mexican!

What’s your favorite Superhero and why?

The incredible hulk – he’s big and green.

Why did you get into fitness (and CrossFit)?

When I was 36 my son told me I couldn’t do CrossFit because I never worked out. (Essentially a couch potato!) I decided I had to 1) Prove him wrong and 2) set a better example for the rest of my kids. The first time I had that barbell overhead and someone said “Wow, you’re really strong!” I knew I was hooked for life! My husband introduced me to kettlebells and my CrossFit performance improved 100% so of course, I fell in love with that as well!

Why did you become a trainer?

I grudgingly subbed for my husband whenever he had to go out of town. Eventually I got comfortable and discovered I really liked coaching and helping people. Now it has become a passion to get women (especially “older” women like myself) to realize how many things they can do. That it is not to late to be strong and healthy!

What’s your favorite CrossFit movement?

Snatches

What is your favorite cheat food?

Potato Chips or Margaritas if a drink counts!

What’s your favorite Superhero and why?

Wonder Woman. She was the first strong and gorgeous role model I was introduced to. Charlie’s Angels would be a close second! (Kick-ass women!)

Why did you get into fitness (and CrossFit)?

I started CrossFit for my taekwondo training, our coach had just gotten certified and wanted our competition team to start to help cross train.

Why did you become a trainer?

I’ve always liked CrossFit and kettlebells and as I did them more and more I wanted to learn more and more about them. Eventually, I started teaching my own classes and like teaching just as much as doing it.

What’s your favorite CrossFit movement?

pull ups

What is your favorite cheat food?

Cinnabon

What’s your favorite Superhero and why?

If I had to pick a favorite superhero it would have to be Batman, because he doesn’t have any super powers and is just a person.

Why did you get into fitness (and CrossFit)?

I grew up just 5 miles south of Delano. In high school, I was a three sport athlete: football, wrestling, and baseball. After high school, I continued playing summer softball, town team baseball and a year of college football. I have always had a passion for competitive sports. CrossFit has allowed me to continue to compete and better myself. Plus, you get to meet some cool people along the way.

Why did you become a trainer?

I wanted to continue educating myself as well as help myself and others reach their fitness goals.

What’s your favorite CrossFit movement?

I do not have a “favorite” but what I dislike the least is probably squats or thrusters/wall ball.

What is your favorite cheat food?

Pizza

What’s your favorite Superhero and why?

Superman…. Although my wife is a close second! Anyone that can handle twins is a superhero in my book!

Why did you get into fitness (and CrossFit)?

I started at the gym before CrossFit was introduced. My husband and I married in winter 2012 and after everything was done I found myself coming home from work eating Hamburger Helper and sitting on the couch for hours which in turn made me lazy and out of shape. Our friends told my husband and I about Crow River CrossFit aka Core Fit N Motion, it was literally in walking distance from our old house. We thought, why not give it a chance! The moment we walked in, we loved it…I loved it! Fast forward to September 2012, I tried CrossFit for the first time and was addicted. The adrenaline rush as the coach is yelling 3-2-1 GO is like no other! CrossFit has brought back my passion for competition and the athlete side of me that I so long missed! Now my husband and I have date nights at the gym and take our 1 year old twins with us sometimes too!

Why did you become a trainer?

Ever since I started CrossFit, I knew I wanted to be a bigger part of our community at Crow River CrossFit. In February 2014, I decided to take the next step and get my CrossFit Level 1 Certification. I wanted to give back what CrossFit has given me, a new outlook on fitness, help make positive changes in someone’s health and wellness and to motivate and inspire others to reach their goals.

What’s your favorite CrossFit movement?

Pull-ups, I have never been able to do a pull-up, not even in grade school. It took a long time to achieve a kipping pull-up but once I did, it was the best feeling ever!

What is your favorite cheat food?

Pizza and Chips, not together though!

What’s your favorite Superhero and why?

Supergirl is my favorite Superhero because she is lean, muscular and feminine. Supergirl is known to be honest and a defender of the innocent. In CrossFit, it shows that woman can lift weights, and still be feminine at the same time as does Supergirl!

Why did you get into fitness (and CrossFit)?

After a very sedentary period of time (college), I joined the Army. My sedentary lifestyle quickly became a thing of the past. But even then, I focused my fitness endeavors on what the Army measured: push-ups, sit-ups, and running. I thought I was in shape. I could run forever but could barely squat my body weight. I read about some Army units adopting this workout program called “cross-fit”. Then in 2009 at the Army Recon Course, I drank the kool-aid and participated in some high intensity interval training involving sand bags, tire flipping, overhead water can lunges and a number of different movements that worked my body in ways I never thought possible. In the military, being physically ready is important.

Why did you become a trainer?

Ultimately for my children. It took me 30 years to find CrossFit and I wish I would have been introduced to it when I was younger. I desire to be a positive influence on kids, young adults, and anyone that needs a little extra motivation.

What’s your favorite CrossFit movement?

Anything in my “wheelhouse”. Overhead Squats and the Olympic lifts.

What is your favorite cheat food?

Beer and ice cream, but not at the same time.

What’s your favorite Superhero and why?

Patton

Why did you become a trainer?
After spending 7+ years of being sedentary, I needed to become active! I played high level collegiate football and spent the summer with the Cincinnati Bengals, so was I used to working out with others, in a structured format, while also having fun. CrossFit provided me with what other fitness programs didn’t – a varied approach with real results.
Once I started Crossfit I was addicted and wanted to learn more about Crossfit and the only way was to get certified. This eventually led me down the road to becoming a trainer and helping others, in particular youth.

Cleans & Muscle Ups

What is your favorite cheat food?
BBQ

What’s your favorite Superhero and why?
Spiderman…he’s smart, strong, and bendy.

Why did you get into fitness (and CrossFit)?

I got into distance running, hiking and backpacking after college, but didn’t do anything else for several years. I have really enjoyed CrossFit for the results and benefits outside the gym (I’ve done so many things I never dreamed of doing before). Finding Crow River CrossFit saved my life and has increased my confidence, self-esteem, and general ability to take on life.

Before CrossFit, I’d be at the gym off and on, never seeing any progress or results (if you only sorta try, you only sorta get results).

Why did you become a trainer?

In early 2017, I changed my lifestyle entirely, new goals and a new me. Crow River CrossFit was significant and the support from all the coaches. Now, I find coaching someone else to a new skill or PR is extremely rewarding and also important to me is seeing the confidence build and long-term health, both physically and mentally outside the gym. I want others to know that it might not be easy, but they can achieve their goals. No matter where your story starts, you can write the next chapter and as a coach I hope to help change more lives. This includes goals such as weight loss, lifestyle changes, performance, overall health and any other health markers. The opportunities for continuing coaching education are enormous and I’m excited to bring my experience and knowledge to Crow River CrossFit.

I also enjoy being creative with the workouts and have a lot of fun thinking about or planning workouts.

What’s your favorite CrossFit movement?

Currently, pistols and toes-to-bar. Or any WOD with running.

What is your favorite cheat food?

Ice cream!
