Member Spotlight- Troy Collings

How did you hear about CrossFit and what was your first experience/WOD/workout?

I had read a few articles and watched several videos about CrossFit and Kettlebells online but outside of that I didn’t know much about it at all. My first experience was exhausting! I had really never participated in any type of group workout however I was very happy with how the group was so supportive. I did 2-3 Kettlebell workouts and then tried a couple of CrossFit works within the first few weeks. I was drawn to Kettlebells.

When did you first come to Core Fit N Motion / Crow River CrossFit?

I had driven by and even stopped in multiple times prior to joining. I took the leap to join on December 4, 2015.

How many days do you work out at our facility? What classes do you normally take (times and specialties)?

I typically workout 6 days per week. I normally go to the 6:00 AM class on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, the 6:30 PM class on Tuesday and Thursday and the 8:30 AM class on Saturday. I do Kettlebells nearly exclusively.

What motivates you/keeps you coming back to Core Fit N Motion / Crow River CrossFit?

I really enjoy working out and have for a really long time. Much to my surprise, the group workout aspect is actually what motivates me the most. I love how the members and coaches hold each other accountable (and give each other a hard time) if we don’t come to our “normal” class. I also can’t say enough about the health benefits that I gain out of coming to the gym!

What accomplishment are you the most proud of (outside and inside of the gym)?

I am most proud of my overall progression at the gym. I “thought” that I was in somewhat decent shape when I first joined but boy was I wrong. The simple things keep me motivated like being able to climb the rope or slinging kettlebells around.

Outside of the gym I am very proud of my family. My wife decided to make a big change in her career and it is awesome that she is going after hear dream job. My kids are growing up fast, doing well in school and enjoy all of the sports. Couldn’t ask for much more.

After a hard workout, what is your favorite meal?

Well, like any good North Dakotan, I like to eat red meat and potatoes or Tater tot hotdish. Tough to go wrong with either choice.

What are some of your interests outside of CrossFit and Kettle Bells?

My interests outside of working out are going to the cabin, fishing, sports and I also really enjoy coaching youth baseball and hockey.

What do you do for a living?

I am a Senior Director of Infrastructure & Operations at Target. I am an IT guy.

What is one goal that you are currently working on?

My current goals are to increase my cardio work and to increase my lean body mass.
