Member Spotlight- Michael Hetrick

How did you hear about CrossFit and what was your first experience/WOD/workout?

I heard about CrossFit years ago but never thought I had what it took. I drive by Crow River CrossFit every day and see everyone running, lifting, working out & sweating. I have to admit I was a little intimidated but was happy to find out that everyone was so willing to teach, to support & to encourage me to push myself to levels I never thought I could reach. I remember for my first workout we did the farmers walk with kettlebells down the sidewalk for the world to see & stopped to face traffic to do swings. I thought to myself ” Hello world, here I am”.

When did you first come to Core Fit N Motion / Crow River CrossFit?

My wife signed me up for my first CrossFit class in the beginning of September of 2016 because I got bored with my regular workout. She even paid for my first month.

How many days do you work out at our facility? What classes do you normally take (times and specialties)?

I started out taking the beginner CrossFit class 2 times a week but now I’m signed up for the unlimited membership doing the regular CrossFit classes & going 4-5 days a week. I enjoy the barbell club on Saturday with the CrossFit class right afterwards.

What motivates you/keeps you coming back to Crow River CrossFit?

I love how I feel when I finish a workout. I feel stronger than I ever have and I keep getting stronger. I had heart surgery in 2010 and need to stay active and healthy. I can honestly say that I’m in better shape now than when I was in my 20’s.

What accomplishment are you the most proud of (outside and inside of the gym)?

Outside of the gym, I am most proud of having a hand in raising 4 of the greatest kids a parent could ask for.

Inside the gym, I’m proud of every single rep I finish, every WOD I complete & every time I set another PR. (There have been a lot lately) I thank everyone at Crow River Crossfit for that. I’m even participating as an athlete in the Saturday Night Showdown!!

After a hard workout, what is your favorite meal?

I make a mean fat burning omelette with broccoli & feta cheese.

What are some of your interests outside of CrossFit and Kettle Bells?

I like to spend time with my family, do anything outdoors, camp, hunt, fish, cook & EAT. My wife bought me an electric smoker last year so I’m perfecting my pulled pork & summer sausage.

What do you do for a living?

I work for the Department of Transportation as a Construction Surveys Crew Chief. I’ve been at the DOT for over 20 years.

What is one goal that you are currently working on?

I have many Goals at Crossfit but one that I feel I’m getting close to is toes to bar
